Tips & Tricks to Make the Air Fried Amritsari Fish

Making the air fried Amritsari fish is actually super easy, but having these tips and tricks handy can really make a difference.

  • Place a sheet of parchment paper inside the air fryer basket before you layer it with the spiced fish. This will help keep the fish from sticking to the basket.
  • To lend the fish an extra depth of flavor and deliciousness, add some garam masala (allspice) into the seasoning mix.
  • Make sure you leave a little space between each piece of fish in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding the basket will cause the fish to cook unevenly and they won’t have that crispy and crunchy outer that you’re looking for.
  • Chopped curry leaves can also be added to the fish marinade to lend it some extra freshness and deliciousness.
  • Remember to use thick yogurt for the marinade. If you are using homeset yogurt, make sure you strain it and get rid of all the excess liquid.
  • The rice flour that is a part of the second marinade is what lends the fish that extra crunch and crispiness. If you don’t have it, you can stick to using only chickpea flour.
  • Got a little extra marinade? Throw in some cottage cheese cubes or cubed tofu and air fry them until they have that crispy coating.
  • You can also marinate the fish overnight if you want to prep a portion of the dish in advance. This will actually help the fish get even more tender and will absorb all those delicious flavors too.
