Spiced Kale Chips {Air Fryer|Baked}

Some healthy spiced kale chips for snacking! If you have read my post on other veggie chips/crisps, then you must be aware of the veggie chips series I was talking about. Kale chips recipe is one of those recipes in this series.

Is Kale A Super Green?

The dark and thick leafy greens are getting more popular as a healthy super green. Include in your diet and you will know what it is capable of. Kale can be incorporated very well in curries, salads, smoothies, and even in snacks. Just like my other veggie chips recipes, this recipe yields super crispy chips but ready in just ten minutes. Is not that a great thing? Well, enjoy making these kale chips and make variations just the way you want and snack these whenever you want.

Health Benefits Of Kale?

This cabbage family super green kale is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, etc. More importantly, it’s packed with many other nutritional benefits which is why it is a superfood. Believe it or not, this healthy green is packed with Omega-3 fatty acids too. If you are adopting a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle and want to incorporate healthy fat in your diet, include some kale in your diet. While the varieties of kale are plenty, I like the curly variety and the baby kale greens. For this recipe, I have used the baby kale and curly varieties.

A Veggie Snack - Spiced Kale Chips:

If you have ever been to a nutritionist, then you must know how important it is to include two-third of our plate with fruits and veggies. Vegetables are low in calories, less in fat, and high in fiber, which certainly makes them perfect for including in a weight loss diet.

Apart from offering the best nutritional benefits, there are many other reasons to include more veggies in your diet. Including rainbow colored vegetables provides tremendous health benefits too. Eating more vegetables will lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. These fiber rich foods have tremendous effect on lowering the risk of type-2 diabetes. Although vegetables have carbs, they seem lowering blood sugar even after consumption. (if you don’t munch on more starchy vegetables such as potatoes). People with high blood pressure will be benefited with the high potassium content of vegetables. High potassium also reduces the risk of kidney diseases too. Read more here.

kaleTo Get the Perfect Kale Chips:

  1. Consider removing the stems and gently tear leaves into large pieces. Remember that the leaves will shrink as they cook.
  2. Adding some oil in the marinade will make the chips more crispy and tasty.
  3. For best results, spread the kale leaves into a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. And, lastly, pat dry the kale leaves after washing them. Using a salad spinner before pat drying helps to remove the excess water in the leaves.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups kale leaves
  • ½ tablespoon EVOO
  • 1 teaspoon Roasted garlic herb seasoning, (Mc Cormick)
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Start by setting your oven to 350 degrees F for preheating. If using an air-fryer or CrispLid, preheat them at 350F for 6 minutes.
  • Prepare your baking sheet or air-fryer basket by lining it with parchment paper.
  • Keep your kale leaves ready by removing the stems and tearing the leaves into bite size pieces.
  • In a small bowl, mix the oil, salt, pepper and the seasoning. Toss the leaves in the mixture.
  • Spread the leaves in a single layer on the baking sheet or on the air-fryer/CrispLid basket.
  • Bake until the leaves turn crispy and the edges brown. The process takes 10 to 15 minutes.
  • After baking the kale leaves will look shrunken due to loss of water.
  • Allow the leaves to cool on the counter for a few minutes.
  • Enjoy with your favorite dip.
