Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Store the Air Fryer Banana Chips?

Your batch of air fryer banana chips can be stored at room temperature for upto a week. Just remember to transfer them to an airtight container after they have completely cooled down first to maintain their crunchiness.
You can also first put them all in a paper bag (which will help soak up any excess moisture) and then transfer them to an airtight container. Zoom image of Crispy Air Fryer Banana Chips

Can I Make it Without an Air Fryer?

Yes, you definitely can! If you don’t have an air fryer, you can follow pretty much the same recipe, and deep fry or even bake the banana slices. Clear pic of Crispy Air Fryer Banana Chips

Why Do I Need to Soak the Banana Slices?

Soaking the slices in the turmeric water will not just lend them a nice yellow color, but will also help remove any extra starch, which will make it easier for you to get that crunchy, crispy texture that you’re looking for. Crispy Air Fryer Banana Chips served in a plate

Why Have My Banana Chips Turned Soggy?

If despite air frying at the right temperature, your banana chips don’t seem to have that crispiness to them that you’re looking for, it could possibly be due to overcrowding the air fryer basket with the chips, and not leaving enough space for all the chips to be cooked through and for them to crisp up nicely. Top view image of Crispy Air Fryer Banana Chips

Tips & Tricks to Make the Air Fryer Banana Chips

Think you’re all set and ready to give the recipe a try? Wait up! You might want to keep these additional tips and hacks in mind to make sure the chips come out perfectly.

  • While using coconut oil will lend the banana chips a nice, subtle flavor, you don’t absolutely have to stick to using it. You could swap the coconut oil with potentially any other neutral oil for the recipe, and still end up with a nice, crunchy batch of banana chips.
  • Make sure you slice the bananas evenly- they should all have the same thickness. Using a mandolin slicer can help.
  • The time it takes to air fry your banana chips to perfection will depend on how thick the slices are- if the slices are thick, they will obviously take longer to get crunchy.
  • Ideally, it is best to arrange the sliced bananas in a single layer in your air fryer basket- they’ll take just a few minutes to crisp up, but yes, you’ll need to work in batches.
  • If you’d rather get all the banana chips done in a single batch, you can put them all in the air fryer basket, but remember that they’ll take a little longer to crisp up, and you’ll need to monitor them and flip them after a few minutes.
