Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Make the Chutneys Last Longer?

The key to making your homemade condiments- salsas and chutneys stay fresh in the refrigerator for as long as possible lies in implementing a few different steps.
First, make sure you store the chutneys in a clean, preferably sterilized airtight container or glass jar.
Next, always use a clean spoon to remove the chutney, and put the jar or container back into the refrigerator as soon as possible. Spicy peanut Spring Onion Chutney

How Long Can I Store These Chutneys?

Your spring onion chutney should stay good in your refrigerator for 5-7 days. If you are careful, the chutneys can last upto 10 days too. Storing the chutneys in the back of your refrigerator can help, since the temperature there tends to be lower, which can help preserve the chutneys for a longer period of time.

Can I Make Any Adjustments?

You can make adjustments to the flavor of the chutney by just adding a few ingredients. If you prefer your chutney to be tangy and sour, you can add a little more lemon juice or tamarind pulp. Love your chutneys spicy? Throw some green chillies into the mix.
To lend a distinct smoky flavor, add some heated mustard oil into the chutneys. Want to tone down the intensity of flavors and lend the chutney a bit of sweetness? Jaggery and sugar can be good options to consider. Yummy Raw Mango Spring Onion Chutney

Tips & Tricks to Make the Spring Onion Chutney

While the process of making these chutneys is pretty straightforward, there are a few tips and tricks you can keep in mind to make sure you nail the flavors and textures.

  • Make sure you choose fresh spring onions to make each of these chutneys. Not only will this help the chutneys stay fresh, but it’ll also have a good impact on the overall taste and flavors.
  • Want your chutneys to have a pop of green color? Add some fresh coriander leaves into the mix as well.
  • If you have a few extra minutes, cook the chutneys in a bit of oil in a pan for just a couple of minutes, allow them to cool down and then refrigerate. This will help extend the shelf life of the chutneys.
  • You can also cover each of the chutneys with a layer of olive oil after they have been jarred. The oil will create a sort of protective layer, which will prevent the chutney from getting dark in color.
