This Vegan green papaya salad has everything that you need for a refreshing flavor. And guess what, I have a spicy dressing for this beautiful and healthy salad. Ready for some amazing flavors? Here is my vegan green papaya salad recipe.

Thai green papaya salad, also known as "Som Tum," is a popular and refreshing salad that is commonly served in Thai cuisine. It is made with shredded green papaya, tomatoes, green beans, peanuts, chili, garlic, lime juice, fish sauce, and palm sugar. While traditionally not vegan due to the use of fish sauce, it is easy to veganize this dish with a few simple substitutions. Avoid the fish sauce, of course. Yes, it’s that simple. 

This makes the green papaya salad with shredded green papaya, peanuts, and a spicy-tangy dressing. Here's a recipe for a vegan version of Green Papaya Salad:

Ingredients

  • 1 large Green Papaya, peeled and shredded
  • 1 Carrot, peeled and julienned
  • ½ cup Roasted Peanuts, chopped
  • ¼ cup Fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • ¼ cup Fresh Thai Basil, chopped
  • ¼ cup Fresh Mint, chopped
  • ¼ cup Fresh Bean Sprouts
  • ¼ cup Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Thai Chili, minced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded green papaya, julienned carrots, chopped peanuts, cilantro, Thai basil, mint, and bean sprouts.
  2. In a separate small mixing bowl, whisk together the lime juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and minced Thai chili (if using).
  3. Pour the dressing over the papaya mixture and toss to combine.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  5. Serve immediately, garnished with additional chopped peanuts and herbs if desired.

Spicy mango dressing is a sweet and tangy dressing that adds a burst of flavor to salads, grilled meats, and vegetables. Here is a recipe for a simple and easy-to-make spicy mango dressing:

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar or lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar syrup or agave syrup
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1 small red chili pepper, seeded and chopped, or two Indian green chilies
  • ½ teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Instructions

  1. Add the diced mango, rice vinegar, honey or agave syrup, minced garlic, chopped chili pepper, lime juice, and salt to a blender or food processor.
  2. Blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  3. While the blender is still running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the dressing is well combined.
  4. Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning as needed. You can add more lime juice for extra tartness or more honey for sweetness.
  5. Store the spicy mango dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

To use in the green papaya salad: add the mango dressing to shredded green papaya and other raw vegetables. Mix well and serve.
