Frequently Asked Questions

What Else Can I Add to the Minced Lamb Canapes?

The minced meat mixture for the canapes is pretty much a simple mix of the meat and a few spices and seasonings. To make things interesting and healthier, you can also add in some veggies like green beans, corn kernels, carrots and potatoes. Side view of Minced Lamb Canapes with Spicy Tangy Dressing

What Can I Use Instead of Crackers?

To assemble these minced lamb canapes, you’ll need to use crackers. However, if you don’t have them at hand or are looking for an alternative, you could use mini tart shells or filo pastry squares instead.

Can I Make This in a Meatless Version?

Yes, you totally can! You can use ground mock meat or soya granules as a replacement for the lamb meat in this recipe, and follow the rest of the steps as is to enjoy a vegan version of the recipe.

What Can I Use Instead of the Spicy Dressing?

Don’t have the time to whip up the spicy dressing? You can use any other dressing or dip of your choice. Salsa, guacamole, sour cream, tahini or any thick salad dressing can be good alternatives. Top view of Minced Lamb Canapes with Spicy Tangy Dressing

Can I Prep the Dish in Advance?

Yes! The best part about making these minced lamb canapes is that you can actually prepare the meat filling and the dressing days in advance and refrigerate them until you are ready to assemble the canapes.

How Do I Store the Leftovers?

Got some leftovers? Just store everything separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Minced lamb canapes that have already been assembled, unfortunately, don’t last very long and end up getting soggy. Zoom in image of Minced Lamb Canapes with Spicy Tangy Dressing

Tips & Tricks to Make the Minced Lamb Canapes

Think you’re ready to give the recipe a shot? Wait up! You might want to have these additional tips and tricks handy.

  • Don’t have lamb mince? You can follow the exact same recipe and use chicken mince or turkey mince instead, and the canapes will turn out just as delicious.
  • Make sure you get your seasoned and cooked mince mixture to a dry consistency. This will ensure that the whole thing doesn’t end up becoming one big mess once you assemble it.
  • If your minced meat mixture still seems too runny, you can cook it just a little bit more until all the excess water has evaporated.
  • Another great way to fix the runnyness is to add a little cornflour (or regular flour) to the mix, and cook for a few extra minutes until the mixture sort of thickens up and comes together.
  • Don’t forget to garnish and top the canapes with a generous sprinkle of chopped cilantro or green onions- whatever you have at hand. This will add a nice layer of freshness and a pop of color to them.
