Baked Buffalo Mushrooms

This year has been really crazy so far. Considering what’s happening around, I am so looking forward for a great summer. Whether or not I can invite friends for a summer hangout, I can totally set up a backyard party just to sit back, relax and enjoy my favorite drink with these buffalo mushrooms.

Baked Buffalo mushrooms

These yum appetizers can be made in advance, frozen, and reheated in an oven or an air fryer to retain that crisp texture. And, tastes even better when served with Texas Pete® Original Hot Sauce.

You don’t have to be a top chef to be a part of the Texas Pete® Tribe. Dredge, dip and coat and be extra generous to brush these little lovelies with an extra dose of Texas Pete® Original Hot Sauce after the first round of air frying. That extra coat not only adds a nice flavor, but it also gives that bright red hue to these mushroom bites.

Whip up a creamy mayo-based dipping sauce with a drizzle of hot sauce and you will just fall in love. My dipping sauce has a hint of this delicious sauce and it tastes just great. I have been making this dipping sauce more times than I count. They taste great with my popcorn seitan, grilled Tandoori tofu, and even grilled veggies. And it takes less than 5-seconds to make this dip.

How to Make Buffalo Mushrooms?

How to make buffalo mushrooms

Ingredients

To make buffalo mushrooms, you will need only a few ingredients.

Buffalo mushroom recipe ingredients

12-15 medium-sized mushrooms(cleaned, peeled and stems removed), ½ cup of cream cheese (I used garlic and chive), Few green onions chopped, ½ cup of Texas Pete® Original Hot Sauce(and more to brush), 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (I used plain, unseasoned variety)

Dip:

Buffalo baked mushrooms

⅓ cup mayonnaise (avocado oil), ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ tablespoon Texas Pete® Original Hot Sauce, Salt and pepper to taste

Method of Making Buffalo Mushrooms:

Peeling and cleaning mushrooms
  • Clean, peel and remove the stems of the mushrooms. Chop the stems and transfer the chopped stems into a bowl.
  • Add cream cheese, green onions and mix well. Our buffalo mushroom filling is ready.
  • Fill each mushroom cap with a spoonful of this mixture and set aside.
Fill mushrooms
  • Now take the hot sauce in a bowl and breadcrumbs in another bowl. Dip each mushroom in hot sauce and place them in the breadcrumb bowl. Coat each mushroom evenly with breadcrumbs and set aside.
  • Follow the same process to dip and coat all stuffed mushrooms.
Coated mushrooms
  • Meanwhile, preheat the air-fryer to 375F for 4-minutes. If using the CrispLid, cover the basket with aluminum foil or Parchment paper. Now place the mushroom bites carefully.
  • Cool them for 15’minutes and flip them after half cooked after 8-minutes of air frying.

  • Now brush the mushrooms with hot sauce again and air fry them for another 5-minutes at 375F.
Brush with hot sauce
  • Serve the mushrooms hot or warm.
Crispy buffalo mushrooms
  • To make the dipping sauce, take all the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Mix well and garnish with green onions. Serve with buffalo mushrooms.
  • Enjoy!

NOTE:

  • Do not use seasoned breadcrumbs as it may make the dish a bit salty. Since my cheese was salted and the sauce has salt in it, it didn’t use seasoned breadcrumbs in this recipe.
  • If you want, you can coat the mushrooms twice with breadcrumbs. After the first coat, dip them in egg white and coat them again with breadcrumbs. This gives the mushrooms a really nice texture after air frying.
  • Baking - for baking option, preheat the oven to 350F and bake the mushrooms on a lined baking sheet for 12-15 minutes.
  • The time of baking or air drying may vary based on the size of the mushrooms. Keep an eye on mushrooms after 10-minutes of cooking. The mushrooms should look brown and feel crisp at the end of first round of air frying before brushing with hot sauce.
